Build up a conversation / Leave a conversation (it’s hard)

This work shows two potentially difficult stages of talking: to build up a conversation and to leave a conversation. They were part of the group show „Letters from Within“ (22.01. – 14.03.2025) at PLATFORM Munich.

Build up a conversation is a video work shown on screen:
Often – a good conversation asks for a smooth start. I feel like it’s not easy and has not to much to do with listening to the meaning of words but building up a feeling for one another. This act of building up can be understood as an original part of the conversation. It now is the thing between you and me, a feeling wrapped in terms and the simple moving of those terms.
In any case starting a conversation means creating, indeed forming a situation.

Leave a conversation (it’s hard) took place as a performative act during the opening of the show and remained in traces during the exhibition:
Often – leaving a conversation can be very hard. If we’re in good term with one another it’s often pretty difficult to figure out a good moment and good words. As ending a conversation simply means an act of departing and splitting up, it can feel like a lot of emotional work which might take up a lot of time.

Social interaction through language can be a physically exhausting process that requires patience, strength and focus – both in the body and mind.
