Plappern / Babbling

Plappern is the german word for babbling. In both languages it’s obviously one of these self referential words which provide a feeling just by the sound of their name.

So who babbles – basically just sounds. One could add, sounds familiar.

Plappern is a way of talking that comes in masses. It’s a massive let-go. It means tons of information without the intent of dealing with that information. The handwritten, then lasercut language on the plaster plates tries hard not to mean anything. It’s not easy to mean nothing. After some time the words become signs, there’s no context other than their own shape and position. Plappern is a wave of listening, searching, seeking content, losing focus, leaving.

Plappern was part of the group show „Letters from Within“ (22.01. – 14.03.2025) at PLATFORM Munich and accompanied by a life activation of the work during the opening. All photos of the show by Toby Binder.
